Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite: Advice from an Entomologist

Nesconset, New York. August 15, 2011

Bed bugs can be difficult to remove and cause many sleepless nights. What do they look like? Can they spread disease? How can I prevent them? Patrons at the Nesconset Branch Library got answers from a certified entomologist from Suburban Exterminating on preventing, identifying, and treating bed bugs.

Long Island’s bed bug experts, Suburban Exterminating Co., Inc. (879 West Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, NY 11787 [516] or [631] 864-6900 http://www.suburbanexterminating.com/), has been the best at battling bedbugs for years. Want to learn how to identify them yourself?

One of Suburban Exterminating’s certified entomologists, Lynn Frank, spoke about bedbugs at THE NEW NESCONSET BRANCH LIBRARY (141 SMITHTOWN BLVD, NESCONSET, NY) on Monday, August 15th from 7 to 8 pm. Bedbugs have recently resurfaced as a major pest, and no one’s quite sure how to deal with them. Frank discussed different ways to prevent these bugs from entering your home in the first place, identifying them if they make it in, and finally, getting rid of them.

Frank is a certified entomologists and member of Pi Chi Omega, the professional fraternity for pest control. Frank possesses a Vector Borne Disease Control Certificate from the Center for Disease Control; he is a certified indoor environmental consultant and a level III certified thermographer from the Infraspection Institute. He is also Green Shield Certified.

Also known as cimicidaes, wall louses, mahogany flats, crimson ramblers, heavy dragoons, chinches, and redcoats, bedbugs induce skin rashes and other allergic symptoms because they feed on human blood. They also prefer to inhabit places where people sleep because they are mainly active at night and can feed on their hosts, unnoticed.
